Frequently Asked Questions
Planning ahead can raise a lot of questions – and we’re here to help answer them clearly. Below you’ll find some of the most common questions people ask when considering a Stibbards Pre-Paid Funeral Plan.
What if I want to change something on my plan later or I move away?
You can update your wishes at any time. Just get in touch, you can either call Golden Charter directly or we’ll help you make changes to your plan, ensuring that we offer you any help and guidance at the same time.
If you should move away, your plan can move with you. Golden Charter works with a nationwide network of Funeral Directors and it is a simple process to allocate your plan to a Funeral Director nearer to your new home.
Can I have a religious or non-religious service?
Yes. When taking out a pre‑paid funeral plan with S. Stibbards & Sons, you can record your wishes for a religious, non‑religious, or mixed service in advance. Whether you prefer a traditional faith‑based service, a non-religious ceremony, or a simple family‑led farewell, your choices can be clearly noted and respected for when the time comes. Planning ahead gives you peace of mind, knowing your funeral will reflect your beliefs and values, and relieves your family of choosing what should or shouldn’t be included in your funeral service.
Can I take out a plan for someone else?
Yes. A pre‑paid funeral plan can be arranged for another person, such as a partner or family member, with their knowledge and consent, if they are able to give it. Their wishes, if known, can be discussed and recorded in advance, ensuring the plan reflects how they would like their funeral to be arranged. This is often a thoughtful way to support loved ones by planning ahead together and providing reassurance that everything is in place when the time comes.
Will my family need to do anything when the time comes?
Very little. When a pre‑paid funeral plan is in place, your family only needs to make one phone call to notify us. We will then take care of the arrangements and carry out your wishes as set out in your plan, guiding your family gently through anything that may still need to be confirmed. This helps relieve them of practical and financial worries at a difficult time, allowing them to focus on supporting one another.
Do I need to have a medical before buying a plan?
No. You do not need a medical examination or health assessment to take out a pre‑paid funeral plan. Plans offered through S. Stibbards & Sons and provided by Golden Charter are available regardless of your age or state of health. This means you can plan ahead with confidence, without medical questions, delays, or exclusions
Are there any extra costs my family might need to pay?
The funeral director’s services included in your plan are fully guaranteed and will not increase in cost. Your plan also includes an allowance towards third‑party costs such as cremation or burial fees and the officiant’s fee. As these are set by external providers, if they exceed the allowance at the time, the difference would need to be paid by your family or estate. We explain this clearly when your plan is arranged to help avoid surprises.
What are third-party costs?
Third‑party costs are essential funeral charges that are set by external organisations, not the funeral director. They typically include fees such as the cremation or burial cost and the minister, celebrant or officiant’s fee. Your pre‑paid funeral plan includes an allowance towards these costs, but because they are outside the funeral director’s control, the final amount may vary.
